Steve and Jamie seem to have it all. They are young, come from happy (if a bit old fashioned) families, and their futures are bright. They are also deeply in love with each other. One day the unspeakable happens. A car crash at a bus stop hospitalizes Steve and kills Jamie. Although Steve escapes the accident with few injures, his family's relief is soon overshadowed by the relization that their son is not the same anymore.

He now claims to be a 30-year old gay man by the name of Rowan Haines. "Steve isn't here anymore." he says. Desperate to get their son back, Steve's father and mother place Steve/Rowan into therapy. But it soon turns out that it's Carrie. Steve's sister, that holds the key to opening the doors that are keeping Steve from "Coming Back".
